Jeff Yiu’s photography is driven by a curious sense of the ordinary surroundings that unveil a sense of simple beauty found in the present moment. Inspired by cinema and musical influences from his childhood friends in Sydney, as seen in his early archives. The raw energy of DIY subcultures is inspiring to his image making.
His visual identity is filled with a playful sensibility that comes from a deep sense of observation. Always noticing coincidental details and natural sensibilities that can add to the storytelling process of his interest.
Jeff Yiu is born in Hong Kong and raised in Sydney. Educated as a photographer through self exploration documentating with his friends in music and fashion design context initially to find his visual language before relocating to London working alongside the industry’s leading and up and coming teams to deepen his own knowledge of the image making process. He has spent the last 12 years around Asia and based out of Beijing working as a photographer.
His clients include VANS, Carhartt WIP, Air Jordan, Converse CONS, Vogue, Victoria Hong Kong, JET Magazine, Hugo Boss, Net-a-porter, among others.
